 The Britannia Series by The Royal Mint The Royal Mint's Britannia series made its debut in 1987 and has consistently ranked among the world's most sought-after coin collections. While the design of Britannia coins has undergone slight modifications over the years, they all share a common theme: a depiction of Britannia standing on a rock, holding a trident. Each coin also bears the inscription "Britannia" and the year of minting. Collectors hold the Britannia coin series in high regard, with particular value placed on coins from earlier years. In 2023, The Royal Mint issued the last Britannia coin featuring the likeness of the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This marked a limited production run and was succeeded by the release of 2023 Britannia coins featuring the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III. The Gold Britannia stands as one of The Royal Mint's flagship coins and remains exceedingly popular. Building on the success of the Gold Britannia, The Royal Mint introduced a Silver version in 1997 as a Proof coin, expanding the series. In 1998, a bullion version of the Silver Britannia was also made available. Today, the Britannia series encompasses various sizes, including Platinum Britannia coins, as well as limited mintage Proof Gold and Proof Silver Britannia coins.
